Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Parasyte: The Grey, and Others on Netflix, Prime Video, Hotstar and Sony Liv

[ad_1]

Sadly, there are no major Indian originals for this week. Sony Liv’s middle-class family drama Family Aaj Kal seems to be the only option for those looking for Indian titles. It is set in a typical middle-class family where the daughter falling in love with a cab driver sets the family in panic mode. On the other hand, plenty of international titles are hitting the screens this week, including K-drama Parasytes: The Grey, Scoop, and How to Date Billy Walsh. In Parasytes, you’ll see extraterrestrial creatures sucking off life from humans to increase their power. Scoop will take you back to BBC’s infamous interview in 2019 with Prince Andrews, in which he was questioned about his relationship with a sex offender.

Prime Video’s How To Date Billy Walsh will do the tricks if you are in the mood for something with high-school romance.

For young ones, Hotstar is dishing out the animated musical comedy Wish, in which a young girl wishes on a star, unaware of what’s in store.

Many post-theatrical OTT releases are lined up for the week, including Miss World 2017 winner Manushi Chillar’s patriotic drama Operation Valentine and the heist thriller Farrey (set in a high school).

New episodes for Hotstar’s pirate-heist drama Lootere are set in Somali and Shogun.

On the international shore, you could go for The Fable — where a hitman has taken a year-long hiatus from killing – or the superhero manga series Go! Go! Loser Ranger in which a foot soldier steps up to make a change once and for all.

With that, here are the top OTT releases of the week.

Top OTT Releases This Week

Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya

Where: Prime Video

When: Now Streaming

National Film Awardee Kriti Sanon (Mimi) plays a robot in this light-hearted rom-com, who goes by the name SIFRA, short for Super Intelligent Female Robot Automation alias. She is being tested in the U.S. for her ability to behave like a human.

As part of the testing, Dimple Kapadia’s character invites her nephew Aryan (Shahid Kapoor) to the States and introduces SIFRA as a normal person to him. Oblivious to her real identity, Kapoor falls for the robot—as expected—kickstarting a complicated romance.

The film has plenty of peppy and romantic songs!

Parasyte: The Grey

Where: Netflix

When: Now Streaming

In Yeon Sang-ho’s Parasite, mysterious creatures from outer space start living off humans to gain power. As humans start getting murdered and outnumbered by parasites, they must come together and wage a war to save humanity.

Meanwhile, a few characters are pulled in opposite directions as parasitic forces try to take over their human side. Get ready for plenty of gut-wrenching scenes and thrills in this sci-fi thriller.

The show is a live-action adaptation of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s manga. Jeon So-nee, Koo Kyo-hwan, and Lee Jung-hyun are seen playing pivotal roles.

Scoop

Where: Netflix

When: Now Streaming

In 2019, BBC did a controversial interview with Prince Andrews in its programme Newsnight, in which the British Royal was questioned extensively about his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who had died in custody three months earlier.

Philip Martin’s Scoop gives a detailed account of how the BBC landed this infamous interview. It focuses primarily on booker McAlister, played by Billie Piper, who used to wrangle interviews for Newsnight. The rest of the team’s contribution isn’t extensively covered.

The movie version of the interview is the same as the actual one. A special shout-out to the makeup artist for the actors’ uncanny resemblance to their counterparts.

Scoop has been adapted from a memoir by Sam McAlister and can be streamed in more than 15 languages.

Family Aaj Kal

Where: Sony Liv

When: Now Streaming

Meher hails from a typical middle-class family and finds herself at a tricky crossroads when she falls for Gaurav (Prakhar Singh), a cab driver. Her family – comprising of her mom (Sonali Sachdev), dad (Nitesh Pandey), and brother (Aakarshan Singh) – is shocked at this discovery and is dead against the same. How the traditional values clash with the idea of this kind of romantic relationship forms the crux of the series.

If the plotline reminds you of Raja Hindustani, don’t bother. The series isn’t half as melodramatic as the Aamir Khan starrer and is a light-hearted take on opposition of such kind of a relationship, besides the fact that Karisma Kapoor (Murder Mubarak) was uber rich in the film and Apoorva is as middle-class as she can be!

Also, if you are wondering if the show has the same vibes as Gullak (since both are from Sony and are set in middle-class families), don’t keep your hopes too high.

How to Date Billy Walsh

Where: Prime Video

When: Now Streaming

Amelia (Charithra Chandran) and Archie (Sebastian Croft) have been best friends since childhood. Like all typical teenage love tropes, one of them—that’d be Archie here—is hopelessly in love with the other but hasn’t dared confess yet.

Things take an interesting turn when a new foreign exchange student named Billy Walsh enters the high school, and Amelia starts fancying him. As she turns to her best friend, like always, for advice on the matter, Archie tries his best to give her the wrong advice to keep the two away.

As luck would have it, his tactics bring Amelia and Billy Walsh closer instead. Will Amelia finally recognise Archie’s love for her or find her Prince Charming in Billy?

Toyota believes diesel engine still has a long future amid slumping sales

  • Toyota sees a long future for the diesel engines despite the challenging situation.

Toyota sees a long future for the diesel engines despite the challenging situation.

Toyota believes the diesel engine is still a very credible technology and has a long future, despite the slumping sales of diesel-powered cars across the world amid the rise of electrified vehicles and tightening emission norms. Australian automotive publication Drive has quoted Toyota Australia’s sales and marketing boss Sean Hanley saying that despite the negative attitude towards it, diesel is not dead.

Toyota’s stance on diesel engines comes immediately after Volvo’s recent announcement that the Swedish luxury car manufacturer built its last car with a diesel engine. In the last few years, various factors have propelled the sales slump for diesel vehicles all around the world. Speaking of that, Hanley stated that diesel is not going to die off anytime soon. “Diesel, despite popular commentary, is not dead. It’s got a while to go, diesel, so it’s not going to die off anytime soon,” he reportedly said.

Watch: Petrol vs CNG vs Diesel Cars vs EV – Which is Better? | All Things Auto | HT Auto

The Toyota executive reportedly stated that diesel remains a very credible fuel source, especially in the case of heavy vehicles such as trucks and large SUVs. However, Hanley also said that diesel engines need to adapt themselves to the increasingly stricter emission regulations for their survival. He also stated that this is why Toyota recently launched a 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine-powered Hilux pickup truck with mild-hybrid technology. Speaking further, he revealed that there are possibilities that in future, diesel engines would run on synthetic diesel.

Hanley’s comment comes in line with Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda’s statement. Toyoda recently revealed that the Japanese car giant is working on a new family of internal combustion engines, which include diesel power mills too. This signalled the OEM’s intention to sell conventionally powered ICE vehicles in the long run, as Toyoda believes the major engine development project is necessary because pure electric vehicles will never surpass a market share of 30 per cent. He believes the other 70 per cent of cars are still going to have internal combustion engines, running on petrol and diesel.

Demat Account: All you need to know about off-market transfer and how it functions

[ad_1]

As we all know, a demat account is essential for anyone venturing into the stock market (directly) for investing or trading. Similar to having multiple bank accounts, retail investors often open and operate multiple demat accounts.

This approach provides them with the advantage of exploring different services offered by various brokers and gaining access to diverse reports and trading calls. The buying and selling activity is facilitated by the exchanges and clearing corporations.

When a retail investor buys and sells a stock, it typically goes through exchanges and the clearing corporation, both of which serve as intermediaries between buyers and sellers, ensuring smooth transaction flow.

Also Read: Can you link multiple trading accounts to your demat account?

Exchanges provide the platform for trading securities, while the clearing corporation acts as the central counterparty, guaranteeing the settlement of trades and managing the associated risks.

In addition to market trades, investors have the option to settle trades without involving the clearing corporation and exchange, known as an ‘off-market trade.’

In today’s digital age, nearly all transactions occur online. However, in the past, transactions were conducted offline, typically through a form known as a delivery instruction slip (DIS). This form was necessary for transferring shares from one demat account to another.

In this article, we will know more about these off-market trades.

Also Read: Demat: How does share transfer work in case account holder passes away?

Off-market trades or transfers

Off-market trades are those transactions not settled through the clearing corporation or clearing house of an exchange. This includes the delivery of securities to or from sub-brokers, as well as transactions conducted under the trade-for-trade segment.

Retail investors may opt for off-market trades when they prefer to settle transactions without the involvement of clearing corporations and exchanges, typically in scenarios where direct transfers or specific agreements are desired.

Multiple demat accounts: If a retail investor holds multiple demat accounts and wishes to consolidate all their holdings under a single demat account, they can explore the off-market transaction route.

Mutual agreement: If two parties agree mutually to buy and sell shares, they can utilise this route for the transaction.

Transfer between specified family members: Parents wishing to bless their children by gifting some of their holdings can opt for an off-market transaction.

Off-market trades involve various other scenarios, including transfers between partners and firms, or directors and companies, as well as donations and transfers related to Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) or transfers to employees.

How does off-market transfer function?

Off-market transfers operate similarly to standard transactions, with the seller and buyer engaging directly.

Delivery instruction slip: To initiate the process, the selling client must provide a delivery instruction slip (DIS) to their depository participant (DP) to transfer securities from their depository account to the buying client’s depository account.

Receipt instruction: The buying client needs to provide a receipt instruction to their DP to receive securities from the selling client’s depository account, unless they have already set up a standing receipt instruction.

Details of the securities: When transferring securities, it is essential to provide detailed information about the securities being transferred. This includes their unique ISIN (International Securities Identification Number), the issuing company, the total number of shares, and any other relevant details.

Additionally, if the securities are held jointly, the signatures must align with the respective names in the account.

Execution date: For the transfer to proceed, the details in both the delivery and receipt instructions must match. The transfer occurs on the specified “execution date” outlined in the instructions.

Also Read: What are the charges associated with a demat account?

The payment aspect is handled outside the NSDL environment between the selling and buying clients.

Off-market transaction through online route

On the other hand, retail investors managing multiple demat accounts under the same depository, such as CDSL, have the option to transfer shares online between their accounts. This can be done through CDSL Easiest (Electronic Access to Securities Information and Execution of Secured Transactions), an internet-based platform provided by CDSL.

CDSL Easiest enables Clearing Members and Beneficial Owners (clients) to submit various instructions, including off-market, on-market, inter-depository, and early pay-in debit instructions, directly from their demat accounts.

Also Read: Can investors hold multiple demat accounts in India? MintGenie answers

Similarly, investors with multiple demat accounts under NSDL can utilise the SPEED-e facility to submit delivery instructions online. This eliminates the need for the physical submission of instructions to their depository participants (DPs).

FAQs

What is a delivery instruction slip (DIS)?

A DIS functions like a cheque but for your demat account transactions. It serves as authorisation for the sale or transfer of shares from one account to another.

What is an inter-depository transaction?

An inter-depository transaction occurs between two parties with demat accounts held at separate depositories, such as CDSL and NSDL.

Is there any difference between market trade and off-market trade?

Market trades involve transactions facilitated by the stock exchange and clearing corporation, while off-market trades bypass these institutions, settling directly between the involved parties.

What is an ISIN?

ISIN (International Securities Identification Number) is a unique 12-digit alphanumeric code assigned to each security (e.g., INE383C01018). Different types of equities issued by the same entity will have distinct ISINs.

Can delivery instructions be given online?

Yes, both NSDL and CDSL offer online facilities for delivering instructions to your depository participant (DP). These services are available to registered Beneficial Owners (BOs) upon payment of applicable charges.

Are there any brokerage charges involved for off-market transactions?

Yes, brokerage charges may apply for off-market transactions, but they can vary depending on the brokerage firm and the specific terms of your agreement with them.

Shocking: 13-year-old crashes Lamborghini Huracan beyond recognition

[ad_1]

  • Money may help you own a Lamborghini Huracan but driving it requires skill, experience and well, a driving license.
Lamborghini Huracan
WHat was once a shiny Red Lamborghini Huracan capable of grabbing spotlight even when standing still is now a mangled heap of pity. (West Vancouver Police Department)

A Lamborghini Huracan can go from 0 to 100 kmph in under three seconds. A Lamborghini Huracan has a top speed of 325 kmph and is powered by a mammoth 5.2-litre V10 engine at its core. A Lamborghini Huracan costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy. It is quite a safe assumption then that a Lamborghini Huracan is not for everyone, definitely not for young adolescents. But a 13-year-old in West Vancouver in Canada found this out the hard way when he crashed the supercar while out on a joyride.

The West Vancouver Police Department reportedly got an emergency call on March 25 about a crash involving a Red-coloured Huracan on the Trans Canada highway. When officials from the department arrived at the scene, they did not find anyone inside the tragically-mutilated vehicle. While no injuries or death was a big relief, officials then began the hunt to find who caused the accident.

The search obviously led cops to the owner of the vehicle and it was eventually concluded that a 13-year-old had managed to drive out the Lamborghini. ““The youth and a friend decided to take the car for a drive but were unable to control the car in the dark and rainy conditions. While significant property damage has been done, we are grateful that no one was hurt in the collision,” Sergeant Chris Bigland of the West Vancouver Police Department, said.

The Huracan’s face has been damaged significantly while the side mirror too has broken off. There is also serious damage to the structure of the car and it is unlikely that the supercar can now be repaired for any form of driving on public roads.

As for the accused youngster, he faces a number of very grave charges for offences ranging from driving without a license, reckless driving and speeding to even the charge of fleeing from the scene of the incident.

CIBIL: How to rebuild your credit score after bankruptcy? Here are 7 effective ways

[ad_1]

To rebuild your CIBIL score after insolvency, also known as bankruptcy, is a gradual process, but it’s certainly doable with disciplined financial habits. You need to review your credit report, clear your bills on time, keep your credit utilisation low.

One of the key advices to follow is be patient as rebuilding credit score takes a long time. Getting a regular credit card will be difficult, so you can apply for a secured credit card.

Follow these 7 steps to improve your credit score:

Open a secured credit card: Secured credit cards are meant for individuals who have poor or no credit history. You’ll need to give a security deposit, which serves as your credit limit. Use the card responsibly by making small purchases and paying off the balance in full each month to demonstrate responsible credit usage.

ALSO READ: What is the difference between hard and soft inquiries on your credit report?

Apply for a credit builder loan: These loans are designed to help individuals build or rebuild credit. They typically have low borrowing amounts, and the lender holds the loan amount in a savings account. When you make timely payments, your payment history is reported to credit bureaus, thus helping you improve your credit score.

Become an authorised user: If you have a friend or family member with good credit, you can consider becoming an authorised user on one of their credit cards. Their positive payment history can boost your credit score.

Pay bills on time: Paying all your bills consistently, including utilities, rent, and loans, on time is important. Payment history is one of the most significant factors affecting your credit score. So, you can set up automatic payments to avoid missing due dates.

Keep credit utilisation low: Keep your credit card balances low relative to your credit limits. Aim to keep your credit utilisation ratio below 30 percent, as high credit utilisation can negatively impact your credit score.

Monitor your credit score: Regularly monitor your credit score and credit report to track your progress. You can use various credit monitoring services or even sign up for alerts directly from credit bureaus.

Patience pays: Rebuilding your credit after bankruptcy takes time and patience. Stay committed to your financial goals and responsible credit management practices, and over time, you’ll see improvement in your credit score.

It is vital to remember that while bankruptcy stays on your credit report for a number of years, its impact declines over time as you show responsible financial behaviour.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Does checking your credit report impact your credit score?

It does not impact your credit score. As a matter of fact, it is advisable to keep checking the score from time to time.

How can you improve the credit score?

You can work on improving your credit score by making timely payments, reducing outstanding debt, and maintaining a healthy credit utilisation ratio (CUR) before applying for a loan.

Why should one stay away from the ones that give guaranteed offers?

One should stay away from the agencies that promise to improve your credit score immediately or are guaranteeing specific results. Genuine services may offer assistance in improving your credit, but they never give guarantees.

What is the key disadvantage of a low credit score?

Among several disadvantages, one of the key disadvantages is that you are likely to be offered higher interest rates even when a loan is approved.

Do banks take a decision of giving a loan on the basis of borrower’s credit score?

Yes, lenders generally use credit score as a key factor in determining whether to approve a loan application. A low credit score may result in denial of credit or approval with less favourable terms.

Carlos Tavares, the CEO of Stellantis, has issued a clarion call to the automotive industry, emphasising the need to slash the weight of electric vehicle (EV) batteries by 50 per cent over the next decade. This ambitious goal, outlined during Stellantis’ Freedom of Mobility Forum, aims to address environmental concerns and enhance the viability of EVs as a sustainable mobility solution. Stellantis is the parent for several automotive brands including Fiat, Citroen and Jeep.

Tavares highlighted the stark reality that producing a battery pack for an EV with a 400-kilometer range currently requires an additional 500 kgs of raw materials compared to traditional vehicles. This not only increases the environmental footprint but also intensifies the strain on scarce resources like lithium, a crucial component in EV batteries.

To overcome these challenges, Tavares stressed the need for a breakthrough in battery technology, particularly in enhancing cells’ power density. He expressed confidence that significant advancements in this area over the next decade could lead to a dramatic 50 per cent reduction in battery pack weight. This breakthrough would not only alleviate concerns about raw material scarcity but also enhance the overall sustainability of EVs.

Stellantis’ commitment to mobility innovation

Stellantis’ Freedom of Mobility Forum serves as a platform for fostering dialogue on mobility challenges and their impact on global warming. Tavares’ vision aligns with Stellantis’ commitment to driving innovation independently, following its departure from the European auto lobby group ACEA.

Despite hydrogen’s potential as an alternative technology for mass mobility, Tavares expressed scepticism about its current feasibility. He cited prohibitively high costs as a major hurdle, suggesting that while hydrogen may find initial applications in corporate fleets, it remains out of reach for ordinary consumers.

“”I’m afraid that for the time being affordability is going to be a major showstopper for hydrogen,” Tavares said. “For the near future, it’s (possibly) going to be a solution for fleets of big corporations, but certainly not for normal citizens.”
