Can you transfer a personal loan to another person? MintGenie answers

[ad_1]

Transferring a personal loan directly to another individual is not feasible. Personal loans are approved based on your creditworthiness, income, and financial history. The lender approves the loan specifically for you. Here’s why transferring a personal loan directly is not possible:

  • Non-transferable debt: Personal loans are typically non-transferable. The loan agreement you entered into is between you and the lender.
  • Credit check and income verification: Lenders evaluate the borrower’s creditworthiness and income consistency before loan approval. The new individual would have to undergo a distinct credit check and income verification process to be eligible for a new loan.

However, some banks or NBFCs do offer loan transfer facilities. A loan transfer (also known as a loan assumption) can be possible under specific conditions. Generally, it occurs when the original borrower is unable to meet the repayment obligations. This way, the lender still has an alternative party who can fulfill the debt repayment.

A typical instance of a loan transfer is when the responsibility for repaying a personal loan is shifted entirely to a co-signer or guarantor due to the borrower’s default. If you have a personal loan, a loan transfer might be a solution to alleviate your debt burden, address financial challenges, or obtain more favourable loan terms. However, transferring loans to another party comes with various implications, so it may not always be the best option.

There are alternative options if you’re seeking to assist someone or to get out of a personal loan you can’t manage:

  • Co-signing a new loan: The other individual can co-sign on a new personal loan. They should possess a good credit history to qualify for a competitive interest rate.
  • Debt consolidation loan: You can consider a debt consolidation loan to merge your current personal loan and other debts into one loan with a possibly reduced interest rate. This could streamline repayment and potentially increase available cash flow.
  • Loan settlement: If you’re having difficulty repaying the loan, negotiate a loan settlement with your lender. This could entail paying a lumpsum to resolve the debt for less than the total amount owed. However, settling the loan can negatively impact your credit score.
  • Selling an asset (if secured loan): If your application for personal loan is backed by collateral such as a car, you may be able to sell the asset and use the funds to settle the loan. This would necessitate approval from the lender and could lead to a shortfall depending on the loan amount and the value of the asset.

Borrowers should be aware that the optimal course of action depends on their circumstances and financial objectives. Consulting with a credit counsellor or financial advisor can assist you in identifying the most appropriate options for your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. How can I assist a friend in obtaining a personal loan?

You can co-sign a new loan for them if you have a strong credit history. This means you become legally accountable for the repayment if they fail to pay.

Q. When should you consider adding a co-applicant to your personal loan application?

If you have a low credit score, you may also think about applying for a loan with a co-applicant or a guarantor. Applying for a joint loan with your spouse, a close relative, or a friend who has a strong credit score can help leverage their rating for approval. Additionally, with the consent of your guarantor or co-applicant, you will need to provide a few signatures and complete KYC formalities for the loan. Having a co-applicant is likely to improve your chances of loan approval and could even secure you a more competitive interest rate on the personal loan.

Q. How does failing to repay your personal loan impact your relationships?

Failing to repay your personal loan affects your credit scores, adds to your debt load, and makes it challenging to obtain new credit. Consequently, your repayment options become limited, and you may need to depend on financial assistance from friends and family to settle the debt. This can create additional tension in your relationships.

Q. What are the benefits of applying for a personal loan online?

Applying for a personal loan online can save you a significant amount of time and effort since you can do it from the comfort of your own home. Some third-party financial services websites also provide paperless approval, meaning you won’t need to submit any documents to the lender for loan approval. Additionally, the application process is entirely secure.

Q. What is the loan repayment period for personal loans?

Most banks and financial institutions permit borrowers to select a loan repayment period ranging from one to five years, depending on their preference.

Google Reportedly Experimenting With Short Videos Filter to Show Content from TikTok, Reels, More in Search

[ad_1]

Google is reportedly working on a feature for its Google Search app for Android where it will let users find all the short video content in one place. As per the report, the Google Search app could get a Short Video filter for content from TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and others. It is not known if and when the new filter will be released for users globally. Notably, a separate report claimed that the Google app for Android could soon offer the Gemini AI toggle that was seen in iOS recently.

According to a report by PiunikaWeb (via AssembleDebug), the new feature was spotted within the latest Google Search app for Android. The feature adds a new filter labelled Short Video next to the Images filter atop the search result space. This new feature is believed to index and collate all short video content available publicly on various platforms.

The report highlighted that despite spotting the feature, clicking on it did not do anything, and the filter disappeared. This could be due to the feature being an early experiment for Google and not an active feature. However, the tech giant experiments with many features and not all of them make the cut, so it could also be one of those cases.

However, this is not the first time Google has attempted to make short videos more accessible for users. In 2020, a TechCrunch report highlighted that Google was testing a dedicated carousel in Android that would put together all the Short Videos together. The carousel would reportedly appear when the searched keyword was likely to have short videos available. That feature unfortunately was never released by the tech giant.

Currently, searching for short videos on Google requires a user to add the name of the platform after the search keyword, which can be frustrating, especially if the user has to repeat the process for all platforms separately. This new feature, if it makes the cut, would allow users to look up videos on any topic from all platforms by just typing the keyword.

Another Android feature the tech giant is working on is a toggle to switch between Google Search and Gemini AI. Switching the toggle will take the user to the Gemini AI interface where the chatbot can be used to generate content and perform chatbot-specific tasks. It is said that this feature is near completion and should begin rolling out to users globally within the next few weeks.

Jaguar Land Rover has reported a 22 per cent increase in retail sales for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, reaching 431,733 units. Wholesale volumes also surged by 25 per cent to 401,303 units. (REUTERS)

Jaguar Land Rover, the Tata Motors-owned luxury carmaker, has reported a significant increase in retail sales for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024. The company recorded a 22 per cent year-on-year growth, with retail sales reaching 431,733 units. Additionally, wholesales rose by 25 per cent to 401,303 units, marking a successful year for the UK-based automaker.

Throughout the fiscal year, Jaguar Land Rover witnessed higher wholesale volumes and retail sales across all regions compared to the previous year. In the fourth quarter alone, wholesales stood at 110,190 units, representing a 16 per cent increase from the same period last year. Similarly, retail sales in the January-March quarter reached 114,038 units, marking an 11 per cent growth from the previous fiscal year.

Despite the overall positive trend, retail sales in China and Europe saw a decline of 9 per cent and 2 per cent, respectively, in the fourth quarter compared to the previous year. However, the UK, North America, and the Overseas region experienced significant growth in retail sales, with increases of 32 per cent, 21 per cent, and 16 per cent, respectively.

Jaguar’s electrifying future

The British luxury carmaker had earlier announced its decisive stride towards a future dominated by electric vehicles (EVs). Under this Jaguar will cease production of its Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) models as early as June 2024 and will introduce a new lineup consisting exclusively of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs).

The company is set to launch three new models on an all-new platform called the Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), with the first model, a four-seat GT, expected to be unveiled later this year and available to buyers in 2025.

This shift towards complete electrification is a bold move by Jaguar and sets it apart from other carmakers that are gradually transitioning over the coming years.

Despite being a minority partner to its SUV-making sibling, Land Rover, Jaguar is taking the lead in embracing electrification. While sales figures have shown a decline in recent years, with Jaguar selling just under 43,000 cars globally in the last fiscal year, the company’s ambitious electrification plans could pave the way for a new era of growth and innovation.

CIBIL: 8 key indicators of a good credit score that you need to be aware of

[ad_1]

A good CIBIL score, or credit score, is indispensable to procure loans and credit cards at favourable terms. CIBIL is one of the key credit bureaus in India which assesses creditworthiness based on a slew of factors which include payment history, credit utilisation ratio, credit mix, length of credit history and credit inquiries, among others.

For instance, if Mr Ajay pays his bills on time, never crosses 30 percent of his credit card limit, uses a diverse set of credit types, never defaulted on any bill, and has a long credit history – then the chances of a high credit score are exceptionally high.

Conversely, if Mr Tommy often misses on his payments, used 80 percent of his credit card limit, defaulted a number of times on his loan EMIs, then the chances of his low credit score would be high.

These are some of the indicators of a good CIBIL score:

Score range: CIBIL scores usually range from 300 to 900. A score higher than 750 is generally seen to be good.

Payment history: This is the most important factor. Timely payment of credit card bills and loan EMIs shows responsible financial behaviour and impacts the score in a positive way.

Credit utilisation ratio: It’s the ratio of credit used to the total credit available. Keeping this ratio below 30 percent is advisable since it shows responsible credit usage.

Credit mix: A healthy mix of credit types such as credit cards, personal loans, home loans can positively impact the score. It shows the ability to manage different types of credit responsibly.

Credit history: Longer credit histories usually show stability and responsible credit management. However, this is not as significant for those who have recently started using credit.

Number of hard inquiries: A lesser number of hard inquiries can positively impact the score.

Default: No instances of defaulting implies a good credit score provided other factors are positive too.

Credit limits: Higher credit limits and larger loan amounts with responsible repayment can impact the CIBIL score positively, as they show trust from banks.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why should you check your credit report?

Monitoring your credit score regularly helps you stay informed about your financial standing and any changes that may impact your ability to borrow money or access financial products.

How often should you check your credit score?

Most experts recommend to check the credit score at least once a year.

Can there be mistakes in credit reports?

It is not uncommon to spot mistakes on credit reports. So, regularly checking your credit score allows you to spot any errors, such as inaccuracies in personal information or incorrect reporting of accounts or payments.

Is it an individual decision to check your CIBIL score?

Yes, how frequently you check your credit score depends primarily on your individual financial situation and requirement.

When should you check the CIBIL score more often?

Before applying for a loan, mortgage, or credit card, it’s vital to know your credit score. Lenders use your credit score to determine your creditworthiness and the terms of the credit they offer you.

Vivo V30e 5G Design Tipped via Alleged Retail Box; India Launch Could Be Imminent

[ad_1]

Vivo V30 and Vivo V30 Pro were launched in India last month. Now, Vivo seems to be eyeing to add a new model — Vivo V30e 5G— to the V30 lineup. Ahead of the official debut, alleged images of the Vivo V30e’s retail box have surfaced online, suggesting the design of the unannounced phone. It is seen with a curved display and a circular-shaped rear camera unit. The display of Vivo V30e appears to have a centrally located hole punch cutout to keep the selfie shooter.

An alleged image of the retail box of the Vivo V30e 5G, shared by Kiki Def and Raihan Han (via Paras Guglani (@passionategeekz)), offers a glimpse at the phone’s design. The handset appears to have a curved display with a hole-punch selfie camera and narrow bezels. The rear panel seems to house a circular-shaped camera module housing dual cameras alongside an LED flash. The design of the camera unit is entirely different from the Vivo V30 and Vivo V30 Pro. The image suggests volume and power buttons on the right side.

Further, Guglani claims that the Vivo V30e 5G will be offered in artistic red and artistic blue colour options. It is said to run on a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC with 8GB RAM and an Android 14 operating system.

The Vivo V30 series was announced in India last month with the Vivo V30 Pro starting at Rs. 41,999, while the Vivo V30 being sold at a starting price tag of Rs. 33,999.

Both handsets feature 6.78-inch curved 1.5K (1,260×2,800 pixels) AMOLED displays with 120Hz refresh rate. The base Vivo V30 runs on a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC, while the Pro model ships with a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset. The Vivo V30 has a dual rear camera setup, while the Pro model has triple rear cameras. Both phones feature a 50-megapixel selfie camera.

Vivo has packed 5,000mAh batteries on both Vivo V30 and Vivo V30 Pro with 80W wired fast charging support.

JSW plans to buy a 35% stake in MG Motor India at ₹35.8 billion investment

[ad_1]

Additionally, IndoEdge India Fund will purchase an 8 per cent stake, a dealer trust will acquire a 3 per cent stake, and an employee stock ownership plan will hold a 5 per cent stake.

The move comes as New Delhi has sought to restrict investments from Chinese companies amid geopolitical and trade tensions. SAIC aims to bolster MG Motor India’s market share in the country and mitigate operational risks by introducing local Indian investors, thereby creating a more conducive environment for sustainable and healthy development.

Also Read : JSW MG Motor India to expand annual capacity from 1 lakh to 3 lakh. Here’s how

SAIC has been focusing on global markets for growth, particularly with its MG brand, which continues the legacy of the iconic British marque. This strategy is crucial as SAIC and its international partners have faced stiff competition in the Chinese market from BYD and Tesla. In 2023, nearly a quarter of SAIC’s total car sales were from exports.

MG’s story in India

Earlier this year, MG, a brand under SAIC, revealed its expansion plans for India. The newly formed joint venture, JSW MG Motor India, between Indian conglomerate JSW Group and SAIC, announced their aggressive plans for electric vehicles (EVs). Dubbed as MG Motor India 2.0, this phase will emphasise on new energy vehicles (NEVs) in addition to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. To support this initiative, the JV disclosed an investment of 5,000 crore to ramp up production capacity and introduce a new car every 3-6 months beginning September.

MG Motor India
Under MG Motor India 2.0, the company will emphasise on new energy vehicles (NEVs) in addition to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

The partnership aims to produce vehicles in India not just for the domestic market but also for export to highly developed markets. Drawing parallels with Maruti’s transformative impact on the Indian auto industry, Jindal expressed confidence that JSW MG Motor India can achieve similar success.

Moreover, JSW MG Motor India intends to enhance its research, development, and technical capabilities by establishing a dedicated R&D centre. This facility will cater to the diverse preferences of car buyers, focusing on creating connected, contemporary, and locally relevant mobility solutions.

CBDT says that there is no special drive to reopen cases of wrong HRA claims

[ad_1]

CBDT to reopen cases linked to false HRA claims? Income tax body issues clarification, says ‘any apprehensions about…’

[ad_1]

Rejecting media reports suggesting the large-scale reopening of cases related to incorrect house rent allowance (HRA) claims, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Monday, April 8 clarified that “apprehensions about retrospective taxation on these matters and re-opening of cases are completely baseless.”

In its notification, the apex decision-making body in matters of income and corporate taxes said that it took action in certain instances of information mismatch as filed by the taxpayers and as available with the IT department under its routine data verification exercise. Under the routine exercise, the “IT department has alerted the taxpayers to enable them to take corrective action,” the CBDT said in its notice.

“Some posts on social media, as well as articles in the media, have highlighted enquiries initiated by the CBDT in cases where employees have made incorrect claims of HRA and rent paid. At the outset, it is stated that any apprehensions about retrospective taxation on these matters and re-opening of cases on issues about HRA claims is completely baseless,” the income tax body said.

Also Read: Can rent allowance be claimed for more than one property?

The data analysis was conducted only in some high-value cases of mismatch between the “rent paid by the employee and receipt of rent by the recipient for the FY 2020-21″.

“It is reiterated that there is no special drive to re-open such cases, and media reports alleging that the Department is undertaking large-scale re-opening are completely misplaced,” read the notice released by the Income Tax Department on April 8.

The department further highlighted that the verification drive was carried out in a small number of cases without any reopening of cases in bulk amounts. The notice also mentioned the main motive of the e-verification of HRA claims, which was to alert cases of mismatch of information for FY21 without affecting others.

What is HRA?

House rent allowance is a part of salary income and comes under taxable income. Income taxpayers can claim tax exemption for the HRA they have been receiving if they are living in rented accommodation by submitting original rent receipts as proof. HRA tax exemption is provided under Section 10(13A) of the Income Tax Act. However, it is not applicable to taxpayers who have opted for the new tax regime.
